The old walled town of Carcassonne is set up high on a hill and comprises of drawbridges, towers and atmospheric cobbled streets. Its medieval core, the cité, was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1997. As Carcassonne is just a thirty minute drive from Gascous, this is a definite must see during your holiday.

Jazz, Spanish dance, music, theatre, all are celebrated at the fetivals taking place over the Summer in Carcassonne.
Festival La Cité – July
This festival is the unmissable event of the summer with 120 concerts and shows, including French and international variety shows, theatre, circus, dance, jazz, opera and classical. 80 of the shows are free in prestigious venues around the city.
Cité Set Ablaze - 14th July at 22:30
For over 25 minutes starting at 22:30 you can watch the colourful pyrotechnics. On the 14th July 1898 the Cadets de Gascogne entered Carcassonne. The delegation was made up of literary , artistic and political personalities. The city of Carcassone organised a grand feast in honour of these visitors and to conclude the festivities they used Bengal lights to simulate fire and transform the Cité into an enormous shimmering stone. It was such a success they decided to keep this tradition and repeat it every year on the 14th July.
Feria de Carcassonne - End of August to start of September
The Feria de Carcassonne is a festive event with groups performing salsa, flamenco, Occitan music, tango, accordion, Banda and brass band music. This takes place in the streets with Seville-style dancing and popular singers.
Every day and evening the city streets are filled with the music of the "Feria de Carcassonne"
The Magic of Christmas - Early December to Early January
A month of magic and enchantment. Carcassonne switches on its lights and from the Bastide St Louis to the Medieval City it offers the best of Christmas with exciting attractions, concerts, street entertainment with magical decorations and lights. You will find an ice rink, a Christmas market, giant revolving eye, toboggans and roundabouts all with a host of live shows.
